Last updated: 21 September 2026

The Fashion Appraiser respects your privacy and handles personal data with care. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we use it, how long we retain it and what rights you have.

1. Who is responsible for your data?

The controller for your personal data is: The Fashion Appraiser Ginnekenweg 8A 4818 JE Breda, Netherlands Email: info@thefashionappraiser.com Telephone: +31 6 40182005 KvK 69318522 · BTW NL001143686B54

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact info@thefashionappraiser.com.

2. Personal data we collect

Depending on how you use the website or services, we may process:

name, email address, telephone number and country

the content of your message or enquiry

selected enquiry type and service requirements

information about an item, collection or case, including item details, estimated value, provenance or other information you choose to provide

photographs and documents you submit

payment and transaction information where you make a payment

communications and correspondence with us

review information, including name, rating and review text, where you submit a review

cookie preferences and limited technical information needed to operate the website securely

Please do not send unnecessary sensitive personal data, such as health information, identity-document numbers, bank details or other information that is not relevant to your enquiry.

3. Why we use your data

We use personal data to respond to contact, lecture and professional enquiries; provide valuations, authentication, CITES assistance and other professional services; manage case files, prepare reports and communicate with clients; process payments; manage client reviews and feedback; operate, secure and improve the website; remember cookie preferences; and use selected images for education or public marketing only where you have separately given optional consent.

We rely on one or more of the following legal bases: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, performing a contract, complying with legal obligations, our legitimate interests in operating careful and accountable professional services, and consent where required. We do not sell personal data. We do not send a newsletter and do not use personal data for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Optional use of submitted images

Images submitted with an enquiry or case are confidential by default. We use submitted images only to assess and manage your enquiry or professional engagement unless you separately opt in to live educational use and/or public marketing and editorial use. These permissions are optional, separate from the service request and never preselected. Where possible, we use selected, cropped and non-identifying details rather than full files. You may withdraw optional permission for future use at any time by emailing info@thefashionappraiser.com. Withdrawal does not affect lawful use before it was withdrawn and may not always remove material already printed, distributed or republished by third parties.

5. Who receives your data?

We share personal data only where necessary, including with hosting, database and secure-storage providers that operate the website and store enquiries, cases and uploaded files; Stripe, where you actively choose to make a payment after live payments are enabled; professional advisers, such as accountants, legal advisers or insurers, where necessary; competent authorities where required by law, including in relation to CITES services; and service providers that support our operations under appropriate confidentiality and data-processing arrangements. Uploaded files are stored privately and are not publicly accessible.

Google Reviews. Where Google review content is displayed, it originates from Google Business Profile. If reviews are retrieved and displayed through a server-side integration, visitors’ browsers do not connect directly to Google merely to view the reviews. If a direct Google embed or third-party review widget is used instead, Google may receive technical information such as a visitor’s IP address and browser information only after the visitor has opted in to External Content through Cookie Settings.

6. International transfers

Some service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area. Where this is necessary, we use appropriate safeguards required by applicable data-protection law, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism. Stripe may process payment-related data in the European Union and the United States when live payment services are enabled. Stripe is used only when you actively start a payment process.

7. Retention

general contact, lecture and professional enquiries not resulting in an engagement: 12 months after the last meaningful contact

photographs and documents submitted with an enquiry not resulting in an engagement: 3 months

paid valuation, authentication and CITES dossiers: 7 years after the end of the engagement, unless a longer period is legally required or needed for an ongoing dispute

cookie-preference records: 6 months

optional education or marketing image-consent records: while consent remains active, subject to review after 3 years, or until consent is withdrawn

reviews: for as long as the review remains published or is needed for review administration, unless permission for publication is withdrawn

8. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. To exercise these rights, email info@thefashionappraiser.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

9. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when services, website functionality or legal obligations change. The current version will always be published with its updated date.
